Radio repair?

I just got my first car today. Well it's not really mine, it was given to me to borrow while a family member is abroad for a year, which is why I didn't see it until I got it. Anyway it unfortunately the CD player on the radio is broken and won't eject the CD currently inside. I really would like to have this working since I imagine I'll listen to my own music in the car a lot for the next year. The problem is that it looks like a propriety radio system rather than one of the ones you can just pop out and replace (the car is an 05 Golf btw). The radio looks just like this one:

    Only more worn out.

Does anyone know where I could get something like this fixed? Will an ordinary mechanic just do it? Or would it be possible to have it replaced with a switchable car radio (like the ones you see in Halfords)?

You can remove the radio by following a YouTube tutorial (search youtube for 3sxBs2IIj24)

You'll need a fascia adaptor to hold in a new radio (search ebay for 150891352480), in addition to a wiring adaptors (search ebay for 160651495976). If there are two aerial connectors at the back of the radio you'll need a combiner (ebay 360917576760). Obviously you need a stereo also, halfords sell a few clearance ex-display stereos at about half price sometimes, but many don't come with a CD player any more.

I'm afraid I'm not sure how to fix the present stereo but I wouldn't imagine a general mechanic being capable, perhaps some sort of television or computer repair man, or someone involved in electronics may have an idea.
