Anybody here know the driver of the black Peugeot 205 GTi (88-reg) who was on the N11/M50 today at c.3pm?? (The car had a bicycle/carrier strapped to the tailgate. Left the M50 and continued along the N11)

If so they should have a word with him about his driving. Between driving well(!) over the speed limit, to tail-gating other vehicles and - worst of all - undertaking and then pulling out sharply in front of cars in the outside lane!! ...he's an accident waiting to happen!!!

Only the tip of the iceberg when someone's on something

These are the 'tragic road deaths' you read about - killed at 3am.... etc. I firmly believe every 'accident' is caused by idiots who can't handle a car yet are given a licence/insurance and proceed to kill themselves/someone else.

I worked in a car rental place and the amount of tourists etc that were let loose in cars they couldn't drive was frightening " Sure they bought insurance" was the reply - not a worry about who they could kill

I have him on my dashcam....so thats an option.
Such an idiot...if nothing else it was childish immature behaviour.

That cant be used in court as its not a garda camera.like i said if you want to take him to court its all up to you the gardai cant do anything,he will know your name your address and everything about you,do you want that.

Common sense would suggest that the gardai would at least mention to the person in question to go easy and they would keep an eye on them. Won't happen tho ...

Ya would think so but no that's bot how it works i reported a car before for bad driving and was informed that if i myself wanted to take it further then its up to me as they didn't see it happening etc its my word against there's,i was shocked and left even tho so i had the reg they would not follow up on it.i walked out cos i would need to press charges etc and get them to begin court proceedings etc so if you have the balls for it by all means take it all the way but as i said you will be putting your name and address out there for this bad driver.you dont know who they are and last thing you want is 2 or 3 big drugies calling to your door.where would it go from there

Listen the way it is is nobody got hurt ok,if ya wanna take it to court it will come out of your back pocket, pay for solicitor day off work then if its thrown out of court you could end up paying him compo, loss of wages, etc etc.the law is a funny thing and just cos you believe your in the right that's not necessarily how how judge would see it,your own past driving history may be brought up a crash you may have had etc you nay have video of this but his solicitor may say its not evidence and not submissable in a court as the images may have been tampered with.its your word against his.if you loose you may have to cover his legal fees his loss of earnings, defamation of character and he may have to be compensated.your name will be in the paper, you dont know who he is or what sort of ppl he is involved with,he may ask a friend of his to call to your house, imagine opening the front door to guys who are there to threaten you.

Please stop typing. You have no clue what you are talking about.

    OP

If you wish make a complaint then do so. Your details will be taken by the Garda but only your name appears on any statement which would be given to the defendant to comply with a Gary Doyle order at court. It is the investigating Garda who initiates a prosecution following taking of statements, CCTV etc and after getting a recommendation from the Superintendent to prosecute.

Your dash cam footage can be used as evidence during proceedings. If the defendant pleads not guilty you will be required to attend to give witness evidence. You will not be sued for defamation or beaten half to death by an Eskimo ninja so long as you tell the truth of what you saw.

I suspect that isn't the case. I believe if the guy had been willing to make a statement etc, they would have followed it up , but if you read what he said, he walked out when they sad he would have to press charges, in other words make a statement.
I expect there is a standard procedure here, to prevent scurrilous accusations wasting their time, which must happen frequently. Make a statement and they will action it, if you aren't willing to do that....end of.

I was undertaken by a guy in a 205 on the N3 one night several years ago. After pulling out from a pub car-park as I went by, then driving on my rear bumper for a quarter mile, he swung left and passed. Then realized his turning was coming up fast on the right, so pulled in front of me and stood on the brakes before shooting up a side road.
Reported to Gardaí in Cavan, give a statement. Guard rang a week later to report that he had spoken to the owner who claimed the car was not driven that night, at least not to his knowledge. Guard said the driver was known for his "driving style" to them. Any way, my word against his, so nothing could be done. In fact, I got three calls from the Guard over the course of next 6 months to try and get me withdraw the complaint. I refused to do so, and the Guard give up eventually.

I actually seen the car you talking about earlier on Sunday driving quite " progressively" northbound off the N11. The car stood out for 3 reasons
    1. It was a 205 Peugeot Gti,
    2. It had a mountain bike on the back with a distinctive "saris" bike rack.
    3. It was driving like a looney with a bike hanging off the back!
This was well away from the m50 though but definetely the same car!

I was tailgated by an aggressive old woman driving an 11 C hyundai jeep on the N20 going into Mallow last week  I was doing the speed limit and when I slowed to 80 kpm before the roundabout she was shaking her head  At the two lanes approaching the roundabout she undertook sharply cutting out in front of me then she drove out in front of a lorry that was on the roundabout and turned right down the town with no indicator on at any stage of her manoeuver.

Sorry, that wasn't clear. This piece would suggest otherwise, but again, I could be reading it wrong.

What in the name of god are you talking about....please stop talking about something when you clearly havent a clue how the system works!!
What makes you think the person reporting the issue needs to hire a solicitor!! Procedure would be that the op reports the incident to the gardai, gardai take statement and from there make a decision (or wait for dpp to make a decision) on whether to summons the person for driving without due care and attention/careless driving/dangerous driving. If they do then the state present the case (with op as a witness) not the op present the case with their solicitor. People are cleared of charges/summonses every day of the week....do you really really think that they are all entitled to compensation, loss of earnings etc becasue of it....get real and quit the scaremongering

Name and shame put your footage on youtube , the gardai have used such footage in the past to prosecute drivers like the lorries drivers who were driving 3 abreast for a photo shoot down the country somewhere last year or the guys racing their sulkys with a convoy of vans with em.

There was a gathering of French classics at an establishment in Willow Grove on Sunday morning. I saw the notice in a local free newspaper, mentioning gathering around 1100hrs, followed by a drive weather depending. I was going to go up for a look, but other things got in the way (life :o )
Can't say I'm familiar with the car in question though, but that carry-on sounds like an a$$

Am I missing something, what has this got to do with classic cars?.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

I suppose a 1988 205GTI would be regarded as a classic, however this is a thread about dangerous driving and the car is immaterial. Should be in motors or after hours really. (anywhere but here I guess

The OP is using this forum as the car is of an age/type that now sticks out and may have been mentally noted by browsers in the recent past. I'm sure we all do it - "oh look a....X"

In fairness the OP is a long time poster on this forum...AND it was a classic of sorts ,(i love the 205's btw) ..he's just highlighting that even knobheads drive classics...i've been on the wrong end of a 70's merc barge before, again driven by a knob...some guys only drive classics as a fashion statement or because they look cool..same thing ???......
If the op is so upset with the drivers behaviour maybe he should leave a message on his door with a nail........:p

    Some interesting comments and posts!
My point in posting this in the first place was the hope that somebody on here would know the driver and point out to him that his stupid driving manner hadnt gone un-noticed.

    I've been calm throughout btw.

I've come across quite a lot of bed behaviour from Hyundai jeep drivers for some reason.

There is a specific phone number for the guards for you to report bad driving. I did it about 6 months ago when a black Focus overtook me outside a school on a hatched section approaching a junction AND a pedestrian crossing thankfully with an attentive lollipop lady who held back some children.

I could have been very nasty and I was outraged so I pulled over and phoned the number and all the details were taken. The Gard said the owner was local and they would get in touch as that driving would not be tolerated. I was asked would I give evidence and I confirmed I would.

I never heard back but i would like to think that contact was made, perhaps I am being naive but this is how it should be IMO.
