Zack Synder's Watchmen (2009) - best version?

Having only seen the 161 minute theatrical version of Zack Synder's Watchmen, I am curious as to whether the 185 minute Director's Cut (exclusive to Blu-Ray in Europe) is better, or worse.

Also, if anyone has seen the 215 minutes Ultimate Cut, which incorporates the animated Tales from the Black Freighter (available separately on DVD) with the Director's Cut, I'd be interested to know if that's worth watching.

Please vote if you've seen all three.

I have watched the first 2 as I couldn't find a copy of the Ultimate version at the time so I still haven't seen the Black Freighter

I've only seen the first two options as well. I thought the Directors cut was definitely better, but only incrementally so. If you love the Theatrical version, then you'll love the Directors a little bit more, if you didn't like the Theatrical then I don't think you'd like the Directors cut either.

I have seen the Ultimate Cut and if I am honest whilst I like the Black Freighter stuff all it really does here is take you out of the movie which isn;t a good thing

I felt it did the same in the comics, I understand why it is there but I fell the movie is better with the animated section as a stand alone piece rather than incorperated into the movie

Maybe stick to the Director's cut instead but if you ahven't seen the Black freighter section well worth seeking it out on its own

I managed to get my hands on the Ultimate Cut and watched it. It was a bit of a struggle, I have to admit. The Black Freighter stuff did take me out of the film. It reminded me a little of the Wachowski siblings' and Tom Tykwer's Cloud Atlas, which moved between its six sections so often that you never could really get attached to any one of them (I read the book upon which that film was based, and it handled it much better in my opinion).

I have to say, between the Director's Cut and the Theatrical Cut, the differences were so minor I probably would opt for the Theatrical Cut. At least I know that's the version most people are familiar with.
