For studied fiction/drama make sure you know a couple of characters very well, know a key scene well, know the beginning and ending, key themes, and make sure to learn plenty of quotes. Be careful of your timing in the exam, you shouldn't spend more than 25 minutes on any question on paper 2.
The Sparknotes website has great notes for the Merchant of Venice and Roll of Thunder.

Hi, I'm doing the junior cert in 3 days and I was wondering, is it a certainty that a debate speech will come up for (HL) english? I was looking over the past personal writing questions over the years and a debate speech has come up 12 out of the 14 years in our exam papers. The last time it hasn't come up was in 2004. Is it a definite question?

The language spoken is the Shakespearean language from the quotes you need to learn, you need to be able to understand it
    Just read a summary online

watching the movie at this late a stage is probably not gonna help

i was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how many quotes to learn for their studied play
i think a quote from each act of romeo and Juliet (my play) should be enough but I'm not too sure

You should learn a couple of quotes that convey the personalities of both Romeo and Juliet and learn some quotes from the key scenes, i.e. the fight between Mercutio and Tybalt and the scene where Romeo and Juliet die.

id avoid questions that avoid dialogue if you haven't studied them. same with essays that focus on conversations.

I was wondering if anyone knew on average how many A4 pages to write for the essay/story part.
its worth 70 marks so expect a lot.

Write as much as you feel you need to explore the essay effectively. But don't write too much or you may not finish the paper. About 3 pages would be the average.

Yes, try to include a quote for every point you make in your answer. You'll lose marks if you don't quote.
