How many children? Does your partner work? If so, have they got any income or in receipt of a social welfare payment?

I calculate your FIS payment to be approx €265. This is calculated on your gross salary - so it could be slightly more depending on your PRSI/USC/PAYE etc.
You don't say if you receive rent allowance - this payment would be affected. However, if you have been unemployed for more than 12 months you may keep your medical card for up to 3 years I think.
You would be a lot better off working than on your current social welfare payment.

so is there much take up on this, seems too good to be true, i thought everyone with a family would be on this, whats the catch? never see too much of FIS rates being mentioned in the budget etc. in regards to maybe being too high etc.

also is this indefinite until your kids grow up and move off etc. i realise its yearly and based off income from work. thanks

It is a very well known, popular payment for low income families. It is a large enough payment for you as you have 4 kids - if you had less it wouldn't be as high.
You get paid for your kids until the age of 18, or up to 22 when they are in full time education. The scheme rules are here: http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/275_Family-Income-Supplement.aspx

I now have Weekend work only (Night shift). Saturday/Sunday
If I work Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays (Paid time and Half and Double time)
But only given work 2*8 hour shifts = 16 hours which is three hours less than required for FIS is there any point in applying for FIS... Does it go by actual hours or by my payslip 12hours at normal time and 4 hours at 1.5 or double time ??

Only wage other half has JSA with two kids..

    Thanks
    J

You have to work a minimum of 19 hrs per week or 38 hrs per fortnight. https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/275_Family-Income-Supplement.aspx

Hi, I also applied for FIS. I was approved BUT they replied with wrong PPS number on it and also wrong calculations from what we thought we were going to get. Any one know how they calculate this. My husband is unemployed-will not be claiming for me but can he get half rate for our children if we claim FIS and I work part time??
    Thanks!
