I have an 2001 decent spec 316i se lying about that has been unused for a few months. It needs some rust repair and a bit of a service. Nct expired two years ago but car drives well . finding it hard to sell though as it doesn't have an nct and not really bothered to put the effort into it.
I keep seeing signs for buy cars for cash but they only offer 200 or so quid. Any ideas what else can be done with it instead of giving it to the rip off cars for cash guys?

Work it needs: rust over one whell.
    Oil service
    Hand break cable replacement
One new tyre (goes flat after two weeks or so)

Options in car: black leather, black dash
    Sports steering wheel
    Cruise control
    Full electrics
    Wood dash

thats all really minor work, why not put it through nct, see if it fails and if so on what and take it from there...

It may not even need a new tire, it could be possible to get it plugged if there's a nail in it. And it doesn't seem to be in bad nick, if that's all that's up with it to be honest.

Fix the handbrake and tire and put it through the NCT, you'd get a grand or more if it was decent.

To be honest I've bought a new car since. Not sure what to do with the old one now.

advertise it over on bmw-drivers.net or bmwhaus.ie and see if anyone bites.
Even sell it for spares etc.

Put a few bob into it and keep it. It's a fine car, and if you want to sell it as a going concern to some youngfella later-on, it'll be worth three times what you're talking now.

These are really fine cars , would be a shame to scrap it with only a few minor faults.

I bought one of these at the start of this year. 2001 with 16 months nct & 8 months tax .

I dont care about number plate , just buy on condition. Mine had never been out of the city in its life and was as close to new as as 01car could be. The boot can only be described as pristine.

I had it checked out by a top notch garage man that confirmed my thoughts on the car .

I broke most of the rules buying it such as viewing in a public car park , and handing over cash to the vendor who was not the registered owner , however sometimes these circumstances are legitimate , as it was in this case.

The car has amazed and pleased me everytime I have driven it in the last 8 months.

On a recent trip up the motorway in the early hours I sucumbed to the temptation to find out what she could do top end. I suprised myself but I chickened out at *** kph !!

Anyway that is all a long way of saying ,do it up and sell as a good car which I'm sure it is.

Those are minor issues, I certainly wouldn’t scarp it. What’s the mileage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 224 ✭✭2Shae

140000 miles. But as per my previous post I have a newer car now with my partner and it is just parked up and not being used. I am going to look at those bmw forums and see if anyone bites. Id rather it went to someone who would breath some life back into it as it was always a cracking car to drive.

How much do you want for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,950 ✭✭✭Bigus

Put it on donedeal as is and describe faults for 700 euro, buy an aerosol puncture fix for 7 euro it'll either work or not. It's only worth 1200 done up with NCT , how valuable is your time .

I would like just above 1000 for it. It has options and has good potential.

Sell interior for a few hundred quid
Then sell shell and engine for 500 big lads on done deal
Wannabe drifters should snap it up

potential, yes, but that potential is going to cost the buyer money and time to fix up....

if you want a 1000 for it, you will need to put the time and money into it..

otherwise I would be asking 500 and taking any offers above 200 on it...

It would be worth around that if you put the time and money into it but as is 500-600 really is what it's worth. Sorry if its not what you wanted to hear
