Concrete base for shed / workshop

    Folks,

I'm going to be looking around for prices and timelines etc. for having a fairly substantial shed put up and I was wondering if ye might give me some information and advice with regards the base as I've no idea about these and anyone could tell me anything.

What kind of money would I be looking at, give or take, for a 'properly spec'ed 15*16 concrete pad for a garage / workshop? Is there a guideline m2 price?

Access to the site is reasonable and I'm in rural Wexford. Anything excavated will likely be disposed off onsite or perhaps there'll be a friendly farmer around that might want something filled in or levelled out.

    Hopefully this is enough information,

    Thanks,

    W

(P.S. given the times we're in, would it be worth negotiating prices with the likes of Admansteel and steeltech etc? or do prices tend to be fairly set? We'll probably be looking for a small shed as well at the same time)

    EDITED cause I'm a gob****e and didn't read the charter properly :o

We can't discuss structure issues, so I can't comment on concrete thickness or steel reinforcement

Mod Note: Read the Forum Charter : 1.5 Structural items . Issues relating to the specification of structural components is prohibited. Any queries in this regard need to be dealt with by an architect/engineer privately.

People are of course free to give you non structural advice/opinions. :)

Couple of Pointers, you say '' access is reasonable'' so having dug out the top-soil, and disposed of to a local farmer, can you get hardcore, dropped at the site, plus the concrete also.

If not it's a couple of men with a wheelbarrow.
The 100mm recommended, is so the Shed Co, can get a decent fixing down through the frame, to secure the shed. Not a Structural issue as such.

Get a local Contractor to quote you, and post results here.

With regard to haggling on price, until Joe Duffy announces that the recession is officially over, ( after all he announced it's start ) haggling is mandatory.

    thanks Martin,

Access, there isn't a path as such however we're not overly concerned with the 'lawn' getting wrecked so there shouldn't be an issue getting trucks up there, the driveway and curbing are likely to get wrecked but they'll be part of the quote.

My main concern with the 100mm is that there will be at several heavy vehicles parked and driven onto the pad and into the garage and i'd like it to last (as said, I've no idea how much weight/stress/etc a 100mm pad would take it just doesn't seem like much to me).

Anyways, I live within a 2 mile radius of a concrete factory, a quarry and several plant/grounds guys so I'll get my smile ready and report back when I have some more info.
