So when you've found a car, all checks out, you make an offer and it's accepted, what's the next step?

Do you pay in full and the seller has to send off paperwork or do you pay a deposit and wait till it's in your name till you pay the rest? Do you drive it off there and then (assuming you've let your insurance know!) or do you have to wait until you've paid full amount? I mean is there a recognised way of doing it or is it between buyer and seller to decide?

No seller private or dealer, is going to sign the registration of the car over to you with only a deposit secured on it.

You pay for the car in full, always a good idea to bring a stamped addressed envelope with you. Both the seller and buyer fill out the change of ownership section of the registration cert (logbook), put it in the envelope and both of you drop it in your nearest post box. That way there is no ambiguity about it being sent off.

Insurance can be transferred either at the time of collection if during normal business hours via a phone call or you can prearrange the transfer at a specific time when you know you will be collecting it again by ringing them.
