Bank transfer without registring payee

I want to pay an online seller. They only accept bank transfer. I trust the seller, but the amount is small. I don't want the hassle of ringing my bank to register them as a payee. Is there another easy way to make a transfer to a 3rd party bank account without using your own bank account?

PayPal don't seem to have this facility (although their info isn't clear). Is there any site that accepts credit cards payments and makes money transfers on your behalf (for a fee I imagine)?

    Thanks

I am not aware of any service like the one that you describe. But most, if not all, banks allow you to set up new payees online these days, you shouldn't have to ring them up. Who are you banking with?

You can easily pay small amounts by paypal. But usually the seller gets about 4% less after receiving it. For this reason a seller might pefer bank transfer, as they get the full amount an its the buyer who ends up paying the fees.

This is a bit stupid for most sellers to do, as it creates lots of extra hassle and can also mean the buyer ends up paying even more. e.g. if the amount was €10 then the seller could have asked for €10.40 to cover the 4%, instead the buyer probably ends up spending over €10.40 to get the item.

German ebay sellers often do not accept paypal and only bank transfers. In all cases when I offered to pay 4% more they accepted, they all already had paypal accounts.

Thanks very much for both replies.

I bank with both AIB and BOI. Due not being set up with security systems with both banks I need to wait for confirmation by mail. This will take longer than I would like with this particular transaction, hence why I'm looking for alternatives.

I see the advantages and disadvantages of PayPal. It seems they don't offer the PayPal to 3rd party bank AC.

If anybody else had ideas on how to achieve bank transfer without establishing payee with your own bank first I'd love to hear it.

BOI should allow you to add a payee with an SMS confirmation code.

They dont have an email option. SMS or post are the two options you would have.

SMS being the obvious choice for this.

You're right, they do have this feature. It's just I don't have this activated yet, and this first requires a post notification.

    Thanks for the info. Appreciated.

Just in case anybody sees this thread in the future.

Two possible solutions to making payment to a bank account without registering a payee:

    1. Use Western Union - but this will cost you

    2. Go to a branch and do a old fashioned transfer on the spot.

Dunno if this case was within ireland, but I have considered topping peoples ready to go phones with credit as a form of payment, of course it only works if they are on ready to go, it used to be only €5 increments but these days you see all sorts of apps for transferring money between friends.

Can't you just lodge to their account?

The phone credit idea is a novel one. I wanted to pay a business (have actually abandoned my plans in the end as I think business is a scam site).

I could lodge to their account, but not online as I have to register a new payee, which I don't want to do. I can lodge to their account if I go in person to my bank.
