Just wondering if anyone has car insurance with boxymo.ie? What's it like? I have a provisional licence but my dad uses my car under his own insurance and just wondering if he would be stopped or anything for going on the motorway because I don't have a full licence. Also, where do you go to have the box fitted? Thank you.

Boxymo I would assume is only suited to someone who has their own car. Just get insured on your dad's policy.

OP, does your car have learner plates on it? If it does, and your dad is driving it on the motorway, it is possible the Guards would pull him over, as learners are not allowed drive unaccompanied or drive on the motorway. Once he shows them his full license, he should be ok. But I think that technically he can still be fined for driving a car with L plates, even if he is not a learner. I presume its something to do with wasting Gardai time. Whether the owner of the car has a full license or a learner permit is not relevant. It's about the L plates.

    Never heard of boxymo.ie

Thanks. No it is my own car, he just uses it sometimes. He has his own car and insurance but often uses mine because he is insured under his own policy to drive other cars. They have a thing where you lose points for speeding, driving at night etc. and it affects how much you pay for insurance next year. I was just wondering if my dad using my car on the motorway would get him stopped or drive up the price of my insurance for next year.

As we aren't in the UK, he can't get fined for driving on L plates when he has a full license. There is no such offense here

    No idea about boxymo

Fair enough. An ADI here told me that the fine/offense did exist, so I just took him at his word. It did strike me a bit daft.

The only way is to ask them. But I doubt there's an ability to turn off the monitoring so anything your father does will affect your premium for next year.

Plenty of people in authority or assume they have authority have absolutely no actual idea of the laws here.

He wasn't assuming any sort of authority. He was fully qualified ADI who was very knowledgeable about his profession. It seems he was misinformed about one particular minor aspect of it, or maybe I just took him up wrong. It happens.
