I was just quickly wondering if it is possible to use 2 screens using 2 separate GPU's that are not in SLI, or possibly not even the same GPU (say 1 760 + 1 770). Not sure if I will do this, but I want to know if it's possible, and the advantages/disadvantages

Yes you can. Most Nvidia 7 & 6 series cards can support 4 monitors simultaneously, a single card would be a better option if you are not gaming. You can also use on-board motherboard graphics output for an extra screen, but check manufacturers site/forums first. If you need even more screens, NVS cards can run up to 8 IIRC. Same goes for AMD cards I'm sure, but I have not looked at them since I flogged my 7970's.
