Double clutching

Is it okay to double clutch when going into reverse gear for the turnabout/reverse around a corner?

    Thanks.

There's no need to. The only reason to double clutch is to match engine speed to road speed when going up or down though the gears, and that's not even really necessary now with synchro gears. You'll be completely stopped before doing the reverse. The only reason you'd need to double clutch for reverse is if it doesn't go in first time.

Sometimes the car doesn't go into reverse so I have a habit of double clutching for reverse, that's why I'm asking.

No bother then. But I usually found that I'd need to double clutch if I was in an unfamiliar car and hadn't pushed the clutch fully down or let the engine idle enough, sometimes just going back to neutral and giving the stick a shake got it into reverse without declutching.

Unless there is something wrong with your gearbox or clutch there shouldn't be a need to double clutch in a modern car. Check to see if the linkages are OK from the stick to the box, they may need adjusting. Don't do this if your test is with in the next few weeks, just double clutch but try to get reverse on the first go.

Linkages are fine. I think the issue is with the clutch. When I clutch in and put it into reverse the car just barely judders for a split second as if I was near the biting point.

It's no biggie as it happens in reverse only, but 70% of the time it does go into reverse without double clutching.

Try pausing after you push the clutch in, should stop it.

Clutch in, 1, 2 reverse gear

Funnily enough it is a Toyota. How exactly is the issue fixed?
