Try donedeal. I know my local car transporter had runs from England weekly. Donedeal car haulage from England and price around. Most I ever paid was 300 a car and tat was delivered to my place.

Nvd.ie will pick it up and bring it over for you. You'd have to ring them for a quote but iirc they charge roughly 300 as well for a uk pickup.

I heard they had stopped it for the foreseeable future as they were too busy in ireland ??

    ¡arriba, arriba! ¡andale, andale!

I used www.shiply.com to tender for a car pickup from Colchester to Dublin. About five different tenders came in & I went with the one with the best price & review combo.

I understand that it might be better for people to have the car sent to them so that they dont have to go over themselves but I couldnt do that myself.

I went to london to pick up my car myself. I wanted to be able to test drive it, inspect it myself and haggle price in person aswell as secure payment ... its just me personally that wouldnt trust a card number over the phone for example

I flew over in the morning and drove it back same day for roughly 300, (120euro flight, 50gbp diesel, 90gbp boat + snacks/train fares etc) and I got an interesting day out of it !

But if the car has no tax etc then one must be careful !

Yes I'm thinking of doing the same .

This cargaint place won't accept a deposit over the phone and won't let me pay for it fully without me seen it and test driving it .

That all sounds great and the normal way you would expect to buy a car but they say they will hold it or 24 hours for me - yet it is still up for sale on their site and my worry is that I fly over and it's gonzo .

Plus the said once you see and wantto purchase it they take it away for an hour or two for their own inspection 😧. What's that about ?

    Car supermarket hmmm

I had that thought aswell but the best solution the garage could come up with was I could give them a deposit over the phone ( I didnt want to personally ) and go over at my leisure

    or

Call the night before and if its still there try get there for first thing in the morning which is what I did. Called at 6pm "yes car still here" , "great, see ya in the morning !"
Booked a flight a few mins later and in the morning i was there !

That just sounds a little strange to me that they take it away for an inspection after you want to buy it not as they take it into stock ?

I dont know the company personally but Id make it clear before paying them. All you need is your money gone and they are sitting there taking the mick.

with my purchase It took 5 mins to take the car from the showroom (other cars in way) and then I went off on a test drive. Car was serviced and checked already so was alright. Just a case of paying and driving off with the v5/full vlc which was no issue.

I think I spent most 30-55 mins in the garage
from inspecting the car engine itself/test drive and paying and I was on my way !

What if a UK car has MOT and insurance but out of tax and not SORN, but and Irish buyer buys it in UK for export to Ireland and drives straight to ferry.

What is the consensus among the UK police regarding this?

NVD were 299+VAT, but are not transporting from UK for the last 3 months or so.

Curent cost of car transport from London to Limerick is approx 550 euro. Dublin/Cork would be cheaper (depending on supplier), especially if you were prepared to pick up at the docks (ie not needing truck transport on this side).

If caught, probably severe. If not caught - none.
I chanced it, and won ;) (didn't get caught).

You could try Costello Auto Trans based in Leitrim. I've used them before and they were great. See www.cat.ie

Good luck - hope everything works out well for you and your new chariot.

p.s. Car Giant aren't a bad outfit to deal with - they are huge. I know they'll tell you they won't discount their sticker price, but I'd nearly bet if you arrived and waved the cash you'd get a sweeter deal.

AFAIK, car giant policy is zero discounts. - not unless it's old unwanted stock
