Is it a good idea to bring your dog to a shelter to play with other dogs?

I'm always looking for someone that can play with my dog but don't have much luck...

Id imagine most shelters wouldn't allow it. Do you have one who has agreed to let you bring your dog?

What would the plan be, volunteer to walk them and bring your own dog along too?

What about a dog park, friends, maybe set up a Facebook group for your area, look for daycare in your area?

A few boarding kennels I've seen in the UK have "daycare" arrangements and some of these involve socialisation with other dogs. There are groups specifically for puppies and then there are social playgroup things for older dogs, with a bit of obedience training mixed in! Check out local kennels and see if they have anything similar.

Short answer, no. Play dates should be with dogs you already know are dog-friendly and play nicely. There is also the health risk of bringing your dog into a situation where dogs haven't been fully quarantined/vaccinated. I doubt any shelter would let you do this anyway.
