England in the World Cup

I know a few who are watching the World Cup, just to watch England and their football team implode.

The hype from the English media is madness, although they know they have no chance.

If England were playing, would you watch or care about the outcome ?

What hype everything I read suggests they know they have no chance

I watch their league all year. Don't see any reason not to watch and cheer them on. Not as if we are gonna get to cheer Ireland anytime soon

Couldn't give a Shiite who wins it.
Rather watch rugby World Cup than a bunch of pansies falling down after a tap on the ankle. I always look for someone in the crowd with the rifle. Cuz the players always go down like they just been shot.

There is an element of 'car crash' TV about them alright
Their media is hilarious as their axes are only barely hidden before being buried into the English manager's back.

The hacks have never forgiven Roy for not being their fave, 'Arry.

Though, I don't mind if they do well.

I didn't even know they were in it.

And now that I do, I don't care any less or more about the FIFA World Cup.

Interesting to see how they get on when written off by their press and support. I hope they do well

Doesn't seem to be that much hype from the English media at all I would say.

There is no hype at all this time though - it may yet happen if they start well/escape from the group stage but right now its very low key.

Apart from declaring they are one of the frontrunners to win the competition as per every other year?

Can't wait for the World Cup.

I want to look forward to it, but I know deep down its probably inferior to the Euro's.

Prove it, go on find one story (that isn't written by some blogging w@nker) that contends England are one of the favourites.

If they win the World Cup, I'd cheer for them as it's the closest we'll ever get to win the World Cup really..

This song reminds of the Summer of 1990. John Barnes' rapping is truly woeful but it's a cool tune all the same.

    I support an English team.
A few of them play for England.
    I hope they do well...

This pointing and laughing when England fail is stupid.

I agree I just hope that when they go out they go out gracefully. That doesn't happen very often. Case in point WC 2012, yes the ball crossed the line but Germany led them on a merry dance for the entire game, they're still going on about the goal that should have been.

I think they've learned from past years and the hype has died down. It will be interesting to see how they get on, they've a tricky enough group. I'd like to see them do well though, they're due a bit of good fortune in a major tournament.

I'd love to know where you're pulling that information from but I can hazard a guess.

How does that work? Support your geographically closest country? Usually neighbours are rivals.

I hope they do well also.

Any schadenfreude, comes from the OTT negativity from the more emotional elements of their fans & media.

A BBC 5live phone in on the night they are knocked out is essential listening

To play football at the highest level requires incredible skill and self-belief, not just to be a big oaf like some other sports.

There's no hype whatsoever because it's an awful English squad. It takes a lot of pressure off the players this time around.

Can't post links as im on mobile, i'm sure even if you have a smidgen of interest in football you will know of the English hype.

Look at the last World Cup for example.

I have to agree with the other lad. I can't watch football at all anymore.

Dive after dive. It's basically become a game of who can cheat who out of winning.

You don't know what you're taking about. I listen to 5 live amongst other podcasts and read a lot of English media and you couldnt be more wrong.
