Has anyone got or used a Joby Gorrillapod for SLR's?

Im tempted to get one but Ive read that some of the joints break easy and it cant take the weight its supposed to cater for.

I know there is a high end "focus" version but its quite pricey.

The heaviest combination i'd use is a Nikon D3100 + Nikkor 10-24mm ultra wide angle, approx 2.5 kilo's.

    Any advice or opinions appreciated.

I have one of the SLR zoom models I believe. Supposed to hold up to 5KG.

I attached my Nikon 3100 and 55-300mm zoom lens and it's steady enough. I just wouldn't trust it hung out of a tree or anything like that, but that's just me.

You have to set it up right so it doesn't topple over, but it's fairly straight forward. I think it's a nice addition to my kit and it does come in handy.

I bought a Joby. I've had no issues with it. I've used a full body (1D X) with lens on it, without any problems.

Expensive, but it works for what I need.

I use one with a nikon d3100 find them brilliant, not fantastic as tripod as such but wrapped around a branch, or the handrail on a bridge etc they are great
