Evening, i know this question might have been asked before in a different way or topic but is there many on here who have high mileage on the 1.6 Diesel engines. Do turbos go on the hdi version as they do in the tdci? Is there one better than the other, as in more reliable?

    Thanks
    Roy

The 1.6tdci engine is the 1.6 hdi engine. There the same thing all ultimately known as the 1.6 Psa engine. I had a 07 focus 1.6 tdci and let's just say I won't ever be buying another one.

I serviced a Peugeot 307 1.6HDI today. 308,000km on it. Original turbo, original clutch/flywheel, original injectors and fuel pump. Original DPF. Not bad going IMO.

We have done all the servicing and repair work on it since it was relatively new.

I have an 05 tdci 1.6 with 210k on it. Still going strong. Get the odd warning light from time to time but has been very reliable. It does longer trips once or twice a month though.

ah Not bad going then :) A relative of mine had a turbo go in their 407 at 72k miles, a well minded car it was too.

Like George i serviced a 1.6 hdi (110 bhp) during the week with 251k kms (156k mls) on its original turbo/injectors/etc.
The owner Bought the 407 with 75k mls and serviced on the button with 5w30 fully syn low saps (c2) every 9k mls.
Again once the correct grade of oil is used and changed within the specified serviced intervals then these engines can run up big mileage..:)

There are a few Focus 1.6tdcis on our books with over 300k done as well. Plus loads in the 200s. On the other hand I have also seen plenty of them break their owners hearts at relatively low mileage. They have pretty much zero tolerance for neglect.

You hit the nail in the head with that comment George...;)

I have found that if these engines are let go over there service intervals then the first part to fail is the turbo and if all the required works is not carried out correctly then the new turbo will also fail.....in the worse case the engine will need to be replaced.

Is there any sense to replacing the oil pick-up pipe filter every so often on them? As a preventative measure.

I know a few with 350k + km. Going well.

Can that not be said of any engine?

1.4hdi peugeot 307 170k on clock and driving perfectly returning in the high 50's to the gallon. I change the oil and filter every 5k miles. The only hiccup in recent years has been the CAT failed and it has gone through two NCT's with the core removed from the CAT

Is that 170km, or 170k miles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭mikehn

That's not the same engine as the 1.6 though.

I have seen a 1.4 hdi (dv4) engine in a 307 reaching 250k mls without any major problems.
The dv4 has virtually the same block as the dv6 (1.6 hdi) and has a single camshaft (8 valves) apposed to twin cams (16 valves) thats in the dv6.

ironically the new 1.6 hdi Dv6C (2011 onwards) is back to a single camshaft (8valves) like the old reliable 1.4 hdi...
