O'Connell Bridge paths- time for a clean up?

Am I the only one who thinks the pathways on O'Connell Bridge are an absolute disgrace? It's probably the most walked across bridge in Dublin by tourists yet it looks disgraceful. Cheap black tarmac for a pathway for pedestrians and absolutely covered in chewing gum. Surely DCC can clean this up and have proper tiles or something.

Been thinking this for years. It's a load of messy, lumpy tarmac. Like something temporary.

It should be properly paved with slabs with other streets.

O Connell Bridge is left a mess with that tarmac mush on the ground from Garden of remembrance down o'connell st, over the bridge, westmoreland st, college green, grafton st, should be an avenue that is a pleasure to walk but it leaves a lot to be desired.

How possible it would be I dont know, but O'Connell street is eight lanes wide... as wide as the M50 pretty much.

Would it really hurt to take one lane (maybe two) of traffic from either side of it (Luas works notwithstanding) and give it over to Pedestrians? Its always full of pedestrians trying to cross.

It is a fine wide street, and bridge (back in the day had 2 tram lines going over it), however the footpath on the west side of the bridge often is a bottleneck and the surface is a disgrace.
