Footwear policy for primary schools

    Hi all,
Really frustrated with our local primary school at the moment. Always had a uniform policy which i agreed with and adhered to. They put in an astro turf pitch last year and then implemented an all black or navy shoe / trainer policy. i have had to replace both of my sons shoes 3 times this year as the astro turf is quiet severe on footwear.
i suggested that the school use a common sense approach to the back and navy rule. ie if the shoe is predominately black or navy it should be acceptable as astro trainers are not available in all black or navy.
The school dismissed my opinion and i told them that while i would make every reasonable effort to adhere to the policy i also needed to ensure that i bought shoes that would last.
When i questioned the consequences of not abiding by this rule, i was met by silence.
Is this happening to other parents if so how have you dealt with it.

Just to clarify they need to be completely black and suitable for astro turf as well as inside school. if anyone has any suggestions that would be great thanks

Moving from After Hours, you probably will get a better response here.

Go straight to the parents association,if there is no good reason for it then as a collective you can make a complait to the school an ask for the rule to be changed.

Just send your kids in wearing their normal coloured sports trainers. Don't buy any others. As a sports person I have never heard such bull about an astro pitch. Is it made from gold thread for heavens sake! As a teacher I know most of us understand the financial pressures parents are under, especially with little feet that grow so quickly. Madness all round.

Could you buy black astro trainers and just take a black marker to the Nike swoosh or adidas stripes?

Why don't you get him a pair to use on the astroturf and a pair of ordinary runner for his uniform?

2 pairs of runners. double the expense. its a crisis for lots of parents with school going children. a bit of common sense from the school with regards uniforms helps enormously.

But the non-astroturf ones can be worn outside of school ,surely?

I find it a very strange policy. Never heard of it myself. My kids also have an astro playground, no such policy in that school. That said, I presume there is a logical reason behind it. 'Simply' buy a pair of black sole astro runners, you mentioned going through a few pairs of 'normal' runners already - they would have paid for the astro turf ones.
