USC Question

I have had an issue with my USC being 300 euro this month. My tax credit says that I am being charged at 7% and my HR dept said this will be happening until the Revenue change this themselves. I haven't got through to the Revenue as of yet but will be attempting to talk to them tomorrow. Is there any common reasoning why I would be charged three times the amount USC than everybody else in my workplace is? I've already sorted out my P45 and emergency tax a few months ago and now on normal Cumulative pay. If I am going to be taxed this much USC before even looking at PRSI etc, there has to be a problem?

As you've already checked your employer is using the rates as issued to them by Revenue then you need to talk to Revenue and see if its just an error on their behalf or why they have you on that rate. employer is correct that they can't change the rates unless notified by Revenue.

Yeah, I guess that's fair enough. I'm just wondering why I'm being taxed for USC at 7% when any job I have worked in the last 12 months has not been under 27k per annum, especially being out of work and between jobs for a month or two in Feb and March of this year.

Any time you are out of work it can screw up your tax cert info between the jobs. Be sure to do a balancing statement next January to be sure you got correct weeks of allowances.

Not sure if you resolved this but 7℅ is the emergency rate for USC. If you've received a cumulative non ebasis cert the USC should be cumulative with it being deducted at the appropriate rates - 2% first x amt 4% x amt and 7% on the balance.
