Question of Merging

I usually drive this route on my commute home.

It involves the junction where Leeson St. and Pembroke St. meet.

Both lights are green and both sets of traffic head down Leeson St. at the same time in the same direction.

    Who has right of way?

I would think people already on Leeson St. but cars from Pembroke St. seem to just put the foot down and ignore traffic coming from the left.

I think both should be able to get on to the road, as the cars on Lesson Street should be over on the left, so there is space on the right for the cars turning on to the road.

I'm not sure there is an actual right of way as you merge together as you get towards the green.

Agreed, given the presence of the traffic island then cars from Leeson St should keep left, and cars from Pembroke St should keep right. Simple enough to merge "zipper" style as the road narrows to one lane.

The problem that I've encountered there is when someone coming from Pembroke St tries to take the corner too fast, and their speed makes them run wide and into the left hand land.
Had a near miss there before that could have been nasty if there was a bus on my left.

That would make the most sense but it always seems to be chaos.

Some drivers split into left and right, people in the middle of both 'imaginary' lanes, buses going to the far left bus lane.
