Ciderdude asked me to post this so if it's out of place then deal with him!

La Mulana, but probably better off with the PC version which has the optional Hell levels

    World of Goo

Blaster Master Overdrive is a great metroidvania
    Castlevania Rebirth
    Contra Rebirth
    Gradius Rebirth
    Excitebike: World Rally
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles My Life as a King. Got horribly addicted to this world building sim. There's loads of DLC but probably not worth it since I was sick of the game by the time the DLC dungeons became available.

    Hydroventure
    Lost Winds 1 and 2
Megaman 9 and 10: supposedly the best versions of each
Rage of the Galdiator (not too sure of this since I've not played it but apparently it's a bit like punchout)
    Alien Crush Returns
The Art Style games are worth looking into
Space Invaders Get Even (get the DLC for this because they stupidly split this game up. It's expensive but worth it)
    Tomena Sanner
    Lit (looks interesting)
    Muscle March

Which reminds me, I must make my Wii NTSC instead of PAL...

    I had Cubello and Orbient.
Orbient was kinda boring, but Cubello was very good, and I found it very one-more-go-ish.

Wow, now that's some good value for €9 spent in Tesco!
The rebirth titles and a bunch of the rest.
I must see what other stores have the cheap points.

Don't want to hijack the Wii thread but would folks have any recommendations for worthwhile 3DS games on the e-shop thing?

I got Pullblox and Bit Boy Arcade already which seem cool. Picrosse4 worth a fiver? The older Nintendo games games seem a bit steep.

I think it's well covered elsewhere here but the Sega releases in 3D are amazing, except for SoR, natch

    Master of the Universe

Mighty Switch force I & II, Gunman Clive is a nice little run and gun that's dead cheap too if I remember correctly.

Good, we're down to 900 points now!
Damn, but that Space Invaders DLC was expensive, better not suck or I'm going to pull Retr0's lungs out of his nose!

Space invaders was meant to be a retail release which is why it's so expensive. They broke it into chunks to sell on wiiware.

On 3ds I'd recommend yumi's odd oddyssey/ umihara Kawase. Might not be on the euro store yet. It's one of the best platformers ever with really fun physics. It's pretty expensive though.

The guild 01 games are worth trying. Attack of the Friday monsters and crimson shroud are the two must haves from those collections.

True Gunman Clive is a fun little game with a belting soundtrack.
Try Attack of the Friday Monsters also.

Dillons Rolling Western is also a nice game and it is made by Nintendo or one of their subsideries.

See this link from Kotaku on some Nintendo goodies on the e-shop

I've got Umihara Kawase on PS1. Brilliant game. Much better than the Super Famicom version. I think the 3DS version is a PS1 port of sorts. Well worth getting.

No, the DS version is a port of the snes and ps1version and also fixes the physics of the ps1 game. The 3ds game is a brand new game and the third in the series. Also the original creator headed up the development team for it so the physics feel great.

Ah gotcha. Must pick that up. Though I'd like to get the 2nd version on the PS1 too for completeness.

The price might put people off. I think it was 30 or 40 on us psn. I bought it regardless because its a miracle it got a release at all.

Yeah it's €25.99 on the eshop, watched some videos and it looks great. Will defo pick it up at some stage. Picked up Gunman Clive, Mighty Force 1&2 and Hana Samurai for 20 bob. Will get that Attack game too. Cheers for the suggestions. Interesting read that Kotaku link too.

SteamWorld Dig is amazing on the 3DS. One of those stupidly addictive games.

I have a yoke on my DSi XL by some yokes (maybe Capcom?). It was unfinished apparently. Then some yokes finished it or something.

I think it was called Dark Zone? Something like that anyway. Or we can just call it 'yoke'. :)

Sounds like Dark Void. An 8 bit like teaser for the main game on the big consoles that turned out a bit naff.

Yep that's the one. Dark Void Zero to be precise! I thought it was great game. Only 500 points too. :)

Yeah it was pretty good, much better than the game it was meant to advertise.

    Master of the Universe

I really enjoyed Nano Assault EX but do know a lot of folks thought the overhead sections get repetitive - so be warned :)

I've gotten great value for money out of Pullblox, the game never seems to end!

Did Kokuga ever get released on the EU Eshop?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭STG.Otaku

Yep Kokuga is on the eShop. :)

    Get it bought!

Bought a shed load of WiiWare games the last week.
La-Mulana is excellent but i admit I've resorted to using a guide which is really weird. For some reason I can't seem to think along the same as the game, getting lost and stuck at easy parts but figuring out hard bosses or puzzles first time.

Picked up art style light trax and orbient. Pretty good little games especially orbient. Reminds me of the bit.trip games. Hydroventure is proving a great buy but the fact you jump by flicking the wiimote is a pet hate in Wii games for me. Its brilliant though.

Rush rush rally racing and bomberman blast are fantastic for multiplayer and the rebirth games are fantastic. I already have the majority of vc titles I want but added super Mario RPG and ogre battle 64 as I've always wanted to play them.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,631 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

La Mulana is a game where you actually have to take notes to play it properly. I had to use a guide as well. Even the creator said he should have made it less obtuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,112 ✭✭✭Danonino.

Was taking some notes but getting stuck at places where without a guide you wouldn't look twice so end up wandering for hours... The teleport walls in the gates of illusion I'm looking at you. Ha ha

    Game is still great.

Or hitting that head with the butt spears... Urrrg

I am surpised Balbriggan Tetsuo has not mentioned Metal Torrent. WHAT A GAME. Get that bought on the DSi Ware yoke asap. It's by Arika, the same crowd that brought you Ketsui Death Label for the DS. It plays VERY similar to it too, except it's not a boss rush, but proper levels.

Even easy mode is a bit nippley! I managed to clear Easy mode first time this afternoon though but only picked up the scoring mechanics toward the end of the game. A bit more practice and then it's on to Maniac Mode!

    Also picked up this afternoon:

    Shantae
    Dark Spirits
Mr Driller Drill Til You Drop
    Bomberman Blitz

Still have 9600 points to use on the DSi XL and another 9000 points I can't redeem yet as you can only have 10000 points at a time on your DSi Ware account.

Can these be transferred to the E Shop for 3DS? Or can I use them on the Wii although my Wii is softmodded will it be banned if I go online?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,701 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

    Wii/DSi only I'm afraid.
I picked up a ton of stuff myself and never considered the DSi Eshop.
    Must have a peep.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭STG.Otaku

Definitely check out those games. Metal Torrent is superb.

Though I've run out of stuff to pick up now for DSi Ware. Looking at the Wii Shop but my softmodded Wii is asking for a System Update and I can't remember how to do it manually so as to keep the softmod active. :(

EDIT: Never mind. Sorted it now. :D
