Viz of the Day!

Each day, Tableau and others produce a visualisation of the day. Lets use this thread to critique what is presented.

Today, viz of the day looks at Indian cabinet ministers.

On first glance I'm not a big fan. I absolutely hate the border. The faces on the map are pointless, as they also appear on the legend on the left.

They could have just left the faces on the left - click on it, and have a corresponding area of the map filter.

The colours on the map don't tell me anything either.

Finally, music is embedded which is just annoying.

The trends visual map is a little more useful as it is a good display of each of the parties relevant dominance by area. The 2014 results tab also looks to be a more useful view, but overall, both of these views IMO are trying to cram too much in and they lead with least visually appealing map.

You've hit on the big issue: what are they attempting to visualise? All I'm seeing is the geographic origin of each minister and what their ministries are. There's a lot of extraneous noise in the image too.

A really nice visualisation today in stark contrast to yesterdays effort.

This guy produces a neat visualisation of his keystrokes over time.

I particularly like the small multiples chart per weekday per hour running across the middle.

The dot chart at the bottom is also interesting, but it's not immediately obvious what it is telling you.

    Small data, but interesting insight.

I know nothing of the content, a computer or card game?

In any case, I think it's a fairly nice visualisation. The colour scheme appears to be consistent with the game itself, and the general use of real estate is good. If I were a fan of the game, I would definitely find it useful and informative.

Todays viz looks has a very limited audience - youth soccer teams in Washington DC. It is informative rather than truly insightful. I do like the heatmap of the scores of all games so far (with a date if the game is yet to be played). I would have formatted it differently myself, but that's just nit-picking.
