No usb port on tv

A relation of mine got a panasonic tv for the digital changeover so its a new modern enough tv,but its got no usb port which in the modern tvs is rare,i have bought 3 tvs since then and they all had usb ports for playing stuff.
Anyway there is some things i have on files this person wants to watch or i want to put on for them, but there is no usb port,i tried burning it to a dvd and playing in their dvd player but it seems the player is just too old or just not compatible either with a rewriteable dvd disc.
I would be grateful if anyone had any ideas on how to play some programmes i have saved where there is no usb port, the tv is a modern tv i would have bet my life on looking at it that it had a usb port but it doesnt ,i could buy i different more expensive rewritable disc but its maybe not worth the hassle when it maybe will never work on this older dvd player.

You'd need to give the model number but the ability to watch stuff off a USB is usually smart TVs. This sounds like a normal TV which wouldnt have this function. Nothing strange really.

You could hook a media box up to the TV via HDMI and watch your saved content that way, or even a playstaion 3 which has a USB port.

I don't have a playstation 3 or a media box and couldn't really ask him to buy one not sure how much they cost either,do you know if i bought a blu-ray disc seen them for sale in pc world 25 gig space, and burned onto that would that be guaranteed to work in most dvd players? even older ones .
