No Proof of No Claims!

When I received my renewal notice for this year’s car insurance, I was stunned to see it was over €400 up on last year despite no claims and no points. It was easy enough to get a quote nearer to what I’d expect to be paying after 28 years no-claims driving.

I rang my previous insurer and asked if they’d send on my proof of no claims; this was almost 1 month before the expiry date and I was told it was on the way. After 4 phone calls over 4 weeks later I have still not received my proof of no claims certificate.

When I ask I am told, “It should have been…” well I know it should have been with my renewal notice but it wasn’t. Each person tells me they will send one but nothing.

I won’t name the company as yet but just wondering if anyone has been in this position. I’ve had 2 phone calls and one letter from my new insurer reminding me that it is an offence to drive with no valid insurance disc but what can I do when my last insurer has not sent me any proof of no claims?

Are you currently driving without insurance?

It's against Central Bank regulations for them not to send proof of bonus out to you at least 15 working days prior to your renewal.

Phone them, state this and tell them if you don't have it in the next 2 working says you will be contacting ombudsman / central bank.

Fines are quite steep for this and the insurer / broker you are dealing with can easily print a duplicate off their system.

Firstly no I am not driving without insurance and I am now insured with FBD. My problem is that my disc is out of date and as I've said FBD are asking me for my proof of no claims but I haven't got it yet.

Ombudsman is the next step but it is a case of every day I think it is in the post as gobsh1te 3 said it was sent on 12th May but to be sure to be sure he said he would post another so I might end up with 2. That might have been 10 days ago and I haven't even got 1 yet!

Are you sure its not on the reverse of one of the sheets that came with the renewal?

The renewal I got was a PDF document by email that I sent on to my new insurer but they said there was no part of it that was a valid proof of no claims.

Are you with 123.ie by any chance?

They issue letters of NCB by email and Ive never heard of any other insurer having an issue with it.

Perhaps check it to make sure the NCB is actually in it, its not beyond the realms of possibility that your new insurer just didnt bother their arse checking the document fully.

Surely the first thing to do would be to open the pdf and check, no:confused:

The other thing I did was to write directly to the head of customer relations. I got a reply from his assistant this morning and enclosed was this elusive proof of no claims. So after phone calls and emails and having been told "it's in the post," it arrived only after writing to this bloke. I only wrote to him last Friday so begs the question if he got it out in a few days where are the ones that were posted weeks before?

Anyway problem solved, thanks for the replies.
