Summons for Speeding

The situation is that my fiancee has been summoned for non payment of a speeding fine. However, this is actually my fault.

On the day in question, I was driving her car (as a fully licensed named driver on her insurance policy), and I was clocked by a GoSafe van at 61 in a 50. D'oh. When she got the fine notice, we looked at it, realised I was driving, and I said I would get the forms sent off to take the points myself and pay the fine.

I then promptly totally forgot about it!! :(

Next thing we know, she has a summons, and I have endured a good auld giving out to, and rightfully so.

My question is, is it now too late to have anything done about this. I am happy to appear and face the charge, fine and points that this will entail. (well, I'm not happy about it, but hey!!)

Any advice on this? Do we go to court where she states she was not driving and I admit to it? Is there anything we can do without a solicitor, as I am currently out of work, and she is the sole earner at the moment, so we simply cannot afford a solicitor at the moment.

All advice welcome (but criticism is not!!! ;) )

Thanks in advance for the replies folks.

    STW.

A good first step would be for her to contact the garda who issued the summons and they can advise you about maybe getting her summons struck out and a new one issued for you. If they can't assist you, a solicitor is your only option and will advise you accordingly.

Hey StomptoWork - how did you get on in court? What happened? Did you or your fiancee get a fine or points?
