Is it time to rethink the scheduling of the Giro?

Its funny given all the comments about the weather on Ireland for the start of the Giro that arguably the weather has been worse over in Italy.

I think serious consideration needs to be given to moving the date of the Giro. I know the logistical nightmare due to other races etc but the event is being run too early in the year and being adversely effected by the weather. These stages should be epic duels but in all too many occasions it is more a battle against the elements than the other racers.

Given that many TdF contenders don't bother with the Giro anyway, should it be moved to late June? It seems to me that the Vuelta and Giro have suffered due to the timing if TdF, with everything else focused on that one event, but in recent years the Giro has shown itself to be arguable better than the TdF, at least in terms of excitement.

I don't think they did. My recollection is that they were close together, too close to win both but not on at the same time.

As to the OP, no. The Giro is the most exciting of all the Grand Tours IMO. The weather has a big part in that.

The weather is so unpredictable that they're likely to encounter similar weather at any time during the summer months but it's true later in June is probably a better bet. Can't see it happening though...
