Random question. Are there any 'C' jacobs bogies out there, past or present on any railways, or are they all 'B's (ie 2 axles)

There is a three axle (C) bogie carriage in Whitehead; I think it was ex NCC diner which worked boat trains to Larne. They are very rare as a rule worldwide.

It's a type of bogie used on articulated carriages. It's a particular feature of articulated trams and the TGV.

FTR, "B" and "C" refer to powered axles no matter what (e.g. "B" referring to two axles powered by one traction motor or a mechanical device, "Bo" to two axles on the same bogie with one traction motor per axle); unpowered axles are always numbered.

Is the difference between a Jacobs and a Talgo bogie that the Talgo has no axles where the Jacobs do?

That's one difference. The other difference would be the number of wheels; Jacobs bogies seem to stick with four. The bogie also acts as part of a semi-permanent coupling, whereas Talgo wheels are independent in that regard.

Invented by a German engineer named Jakobs?
