West Cork 200 v Tour de Burren

Was going to enter the West Cork 200 (100k route) 21st June. But then discovered that registration is at 6am and event starts at 7am.
It's around a 2 hour drive for me from Co.Waterford, so I'd need to leave home before 4am and get up at 3.30am. Going down night before is not an option due to family.
6am reg and 7am start seems a really really early start for a 100k event and not an easy task for those who must travel same day.... So as they say in Dragons Den "I'm out".

So was now looking at the Tour de Burren, which is on same day, with a much more realistic start time of 10.30am (96k route) but is further away for me.
Not having driven to Ballyvaughan before, could anyone tell me how long a drive it would be from either Lismore or Fermoy? + what time is registration?
Is it a good event, worthy of a long drive there and back?

Fermoy to Ballyvaughan is about 2 hours, maybe a bit less depending on how you drive.

    Reg on line http://tourdeburren.com/
Event registration will close on midnight Monday June 16th or as there is a limit of 1,600 cyclists on the event
There will be no registration on the day.
