Painting pvc/laminate kitchen units

Folks,
Rather than replace my kitchen units, I've decided that for now, a change of colour will do the trick. They're white pvc/laminate ones, so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice re painting them. Is there a particular type of paint that works well, or would a few coats of gloss do the trick?
To date, I've never painted anything but walls and wood, so any and all tips would be greatly appreciated!

Once you have the right primer for the substrate you can use pretty much any paint you want. Some of the modern water based paints (Farrow & Ball, Colortrend, etc) are very good for this purpose, if a little pricey compared to traditional gloss.

Call in to your local paint shop and tell them what you want to paint and they'll be able to supply a good primer and paint.

Clean them down with sugar soap.

Wipe them down with ESP and clean lint free rags.

Give them a coat of BIN primer.

And two coats of satin/ gloss depending on what finish you want.

There are two pack paints you can get for kitchens as well, but if your a novice I wouldn't be advising you try them.
