how is it worked out lads

A lot depends on when in march slurry was spread and what was a light coat, if mid march and 2K gallons/acre and weather was damp you sould have up on 40 units in it. Yes teagasc say different but I see loads of lads complaining that slurry souran silage and I think it is they under calculate N in slurry early in the year.

You put out 135 units from 7th of April and if we allow 15-20 still available from slurry(2K gallons/Acre) you could be looking at late June. Some may have being washed away in the heavy rain but looks like you have loads of N to use up.

That's a hell of a lot of Nitrogen for one cut. Do you always put it out this heavy?

If it was italian or hybrid i might be ok cause they grow like stink and i reckon can use way more than2 units a day. What about getting a nitrates test done

I say he made a mistake it should have been 18-6-12 as he has not enough P&K in the fertlizer budget

Could you bring a grass sample to the lab for testing ?? Considering the good growth there has been combined with the heavy rain the N may be well down. Rember lads the 2 units a day is an average and I'd wonder given this spring would it have been using more. It might be worth ringing the lab and asking can they test it.

OP I think next spring some soil samples would be a good idea to ensure your P and K aren't out of kilter as if they or the acidity are off then more N will give diminishing returns for increased expense.

way too much i would have left it at d first application and slurry u wont get d return back in yield or quality from the second two bags not to mind risking real wrank grass that cattle mightnt eat next winter

it was my nephew that spread the first round one side of the spreader was blocked when he spread it so 2 weeks after when we went to look at it the fields were like a zebra, i will be going with 80 ton of lime after the cut and graze then till august then go for a light cut in late sept, i went with what a poster said about getting a grass sample done, so i rang some crowd in oldcastle co meath and will be sending a sample there in the morning, are these labs accurate what can they tell you from the sample, about the slurry , it was very watery and i was travelling in second gear high.thanks lab man

Cool your jets! It's only may. No point in making high nitrate muck just to cut 2 weeks earlier.

My understanding is anything less than 500 is ok for cutting. Like sugars to be a bit higher. What time of day was sample taken?
