Well any of the trains to Tara Street will stop in Connolly en route anyway, but there are a few trains that terminate/start there so getting to/from Tara Street would entail changing trains in Connolly if you were on one of those. TBH if you were to get one of those trains you might be as well to just walk from Connolly rather than waiting for a transfer to get you a marginal gain at best. Travelling from Clonsilla you probably also have the option of Docklands trains too, if the timing of that suited you better, as that looks to be roughly equidistant compared to the other two.

I'd actually go so far as to say there's no one right answer, unless timings dictate something, and I'd be inclined to look at whichever suits you best for leaving in the morning and evenings.

If the times of the Docklands trains suit you definitely go for them as the trains are far less crowded than the Connolly trains. The walk is about the same from each station.

Just remember that Docklands is only open at peak times.

That's highly questionable these days, as its usually a 3 car 22k and a 4 car 29k doing the two highest peak services to Docklands. The 22k is crowded to a horrendously uncomfortable level and it can take a prolonged period of time to actually get out at Docklands if you're sitting to the middle of a car due to the single-leaf doors at the ends.

As someone who works in the same area and uses this route every day, definitely use Docklands assuming your working hours are not off peak. You will always get a seat from Clonsilla in the morning (it only gets to standing room only from Coolmine). You bypass Druncondra and are not stuck waiting for platform or signal clearance in Connolly (or have to walk the mile from platform 7 to the exit). The only services in the evening from Docklands that you may have to stand for are the 5:25 or 5:55 but only if you leave it until the last minute to board.

PS - even if you are stuck in the middle of the packed carriage in the morning, you will still alight within 90 seconds - not a big deal.

The only time I ever use Connolly is if I got delayed at work by a few minutes and did not want to wait the full 30 minutes until the next Docklands departure.

    Here's the timetable.

Some services operate to Connolly/Pearse, while others terminate at Docklands Station:

Any issues getting on the Clonsilla/Coolmine/Castleknock -> Docklands (and vice versa) trains at peak times with a child in a stroller? Is there always room?

If you get trains departing between 7:30 and 8:30am it can be tight. You'll get a seat (from Clonsilla anyway) but you most likely will need to stow away your stroller as the standing areas can be chockablock esp once it hits Ashtown.

Evening trains somehow are never as bad as commuters seem to stagger their journeys moreso across the various departures from Docklands.
