retina MacBook Pro 2014 refresh

Any ideas about when it's expected?

Been looking at getting the 13", but at this stage I'm just considering holding off because with the non-retina MBP supposedly being dropped, that could mean the current entry level model moves into its place and becomes cheaper, or at least it gets a ram upgrade and maybe an SSD capacity upgrade and stays at its current price point -all with new chips, obviously.

I can wait it out, but I'd need one come college time in September, really couldn't wait until late October/November like the last refresh.

    Any ideas?

It depends whether they decide to wait for Broadwell. Intel was claiming it would be ready for Christmas but not for the back to school season. I’d imagine Feb/March is more likely. But even if it’s ready for November that might be a bit too late for Apple, who may use this as an opportunity to do another price drop. In which case we should see a rMBP refresh very soon. I wouldn’t be expecting any change in RAM or SSD capacity, though. Just a processor bump and a price drop.

Q4 most likely if they wait for the new Broadwell Intel chips http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Retina_MacBook_Pro

    I'd guess late October.

That's a bit of a pain if it's late October. I'm surprised they'd go a full year without a refresh.

    They've some conference soon, right?

It's mainly the retina screen I'm most interested in, so I'll look into the new retina air when it gets announced then, possibly.

Is Haswell the next chip upgrade? Wasn't there two upgrades last year with the same type of chip, though?

The may be something announced next week in and around the WWDC if you can hang on for a few days.

The Retina Pro only got updated in November last year, would have thought it's a bit early for another update. Can't imagine the regular MB Pros being dropped next week, so don't think we'll be seeing a price drop either. But stranger things have happened.

MBPs usually have an 8-9 month refresh cycle. It’s been a little over 7 months since the last refresh, so they are definitely nearing the end of their current cycle. I’m not expecting it at WWDC, not with iMacs and possible even new ATV hardware being announced there. I don’t think another Haswell spec bump would be worth a mention in the keynote. But we could see a silent refresh by the end of June/early July in time for back to school. September-October would be very late, but if Intel have guaranteed them Broadwell will be ready and if the new 12-inch Air is ready, we could see both being announced alongside the release of 10.10.

Like I said, I'm in no rush until August/September :)

The reason I'm waiting it out for the 3rd gen version is because the 1st gen had lag problems with every day sort of apps. That was largely rectified by the current version, but a new updated model should address it completely.

Wouldn't make sense to buy one this late in the cycle.

Expect the current generation to drop in price, and as they're still fine machines you could get a decent bargain.

If I could get the current one with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD for around the current price I'd happily purchase one.

Also, thank fúck for Apple education pricing! :pac:
