I missed out on a prize over the weekend becase of a count back.

when you enter your score into the computer, does the computer decide placings based on countback or is it done manually by someone at the club?

    Computer decides it

A human decides the coutback criteria (which is widely available BTW), the computer computes the result almost instantly.

Last year I played in a competition that had reversed the order of the nines for a reason that I can't remember. So we played 10 - 18 followed by 1 - 9. I came tied 3rd and had a better 1 - 9 score than the other fella, but lost on count back as they said the count back was on the basis of 10-18.

I fumed and fumed all week at the injustice of it all, determined to speak my mind the next time I got to the course. Thankfully before I vented, I happened to see a note (dated 3 weeks previously) on the notice board stating that all count backs would be done on the basis of 10 - 18. They had also sent this to everyone in the newsletter.

It's amazing how much you learn if you only the club notices.

Would love to see them change this to Odds or evens. Hate when you have a super front 9 score but loose it on count back.

its all in the programme for the competition in the computer.
If theres a tie it works like this,
    Scores on the

    Back 9
    Back 6
    Back 3
    Back 1

If in the unlikely event scores are still tied after this process (it happens an odd time)
The comp committee goes to the scores on the 1st hole.2nd hole and so on.
(H/c's are taken into account on solving these ties)
Gross scores are sorted on the gross scores only.
The Club Comp Committee should have clearly posted their method for the resolution of ties in competitions(For the benefit of compeditors).
    (Ex H/Sec & Comp Sec)
