    Hiya.
Anyone got an suggested layout for the following idea that I have. I want to pump water from an outside source (cleaned and filtered) up to the existing water tank in the attic for distribution. How can I get the 'system' to draw water from the store tank (WaterButt) before it takes water from the mains. I realise that I need a pump of some description. Would a second ballcock fitted to the second source be an option. Maybe a seperate 'feeder tank'.

You need a float switch in your main tank that will activate the mains when the level reaches a set low point.

You might also need one in your BUTT (no jokes please:pac:) to deactivate the pump pumping the water from that to your main tank during dry spells.

You'll need some way of turning off the rising main, electric solenoid etc to allow the level in the attic tank to drop then maybe using a separate ballcock arrangement pump the water into the attic tank from the water butt. All a bit manual for these automated times but it should work easily enough.
