Hi, My crush gate got bent last week when a mad limo cow in it. I had a lad helping me giving a bolus and she went mad. She bent the bar the locks around head about six inches from top it had rusted a bit. It is totally broke now. Wondering is it worth fixing with a lad doing a bit of welding or would be better off buying a new one. Just the hassle trying to bore old concrete aroiund this one and then fit a new one. I work off farm so time constraint trying to get jobs done. Also if a new one it could wider than the one I have. I have a three bar crush. Any advice appreciated on good models of crush gate or what to do. thanks

I put in condon gate 3 years ago. Great job, and you can adjust the neck bars while a cow or bull is in the gate. Or if they get in trouble.

Id agree with every one else, the main reason being you need to think of the what if if it broke with an animal in it,
It wouldn't be the best place to suddenly have a sharp edge and an irate animal :(

We changed for a nugent gate here the same as the condon universal one above and have to say its a super gate, so easy to change with, no faffing about with pins and means you can adjust between the different animals as they are coming up the race so no risk of an animal pulling back

+1 for the nugent, we put in a head scoop as well, great job for the bolus

Thanks for all the replies. How much would the condon universal or Nugent universal cost? Can you buy directly from them. I haven't seen these brands in my local co-op.

Also can these gates be put onto an existing crush or would I have get new bars for the crush also. Thanks

Is the scoop also a Nugent? Any harm to ask how much it was? (PM if you like) Also fitted a new Nugent gate recently and am now wondering how I got so long without one. Now looking to fit a scoop too and the scoops are designed to tie-in with the gates I believe.

We paid €600 for the Nugent Universal Crush Gate (galavanised) and €800 for the head scoop - claimed the vat back on the gate but it was disallowed on the head scoop even though we have it welded to the crush.

We bought these in 2012 after looking at all the different ones on the market at the ploughing match, we purchased from Gordon Hegarty in Kilkenny.

Are those prices the wrong way around? Surely the gate is more than the scoop?

No the scoop was dearer! Could do with an Anti-backing bar now.

Nice set-up all the same. Sort of a lifetime investment. It will save plenty of fcuks and turn allot of jobs into an easy to manage one man job.
