    Hey,

just wondering what the story is with posting cartell reports here?
I was looking at an A6 yesterday that looked great, cartell shows it as UK import with CAT D write-off.

Damn thing was lovely too :(

If it saves someone else the bother Id be happy to post the info here?
If it catches on, could be a useful sticky?

    Cheers!

Cat D is the mildest of UK designated write offs, could be as simple as something needing a new headlight or wing.
Category D The vehicle is economically repairable but other factors are involved that cause the insurer to declare the vehicle a write off. Perhaps the replacement car hire is too costly or it will take too long for a specialist part to be delivered. A Cat D is repairable salvage. The Motor Insurers Anti-Fraud and Theft Register (MIAFTR) defines Cat D as repairable total loss vehicles where repair costs including VAT do nor exceed the vehicle’s pre-accident value (PAV).

Depending on how old the car was when it was crashed could mean that the damage was quite serious, obviously not structurally but if the car was worth over £20,000 at the time, a category D write off could mean damage caused totalled in excess of £10,000, that could mean a big smack or something small and the air bags were deployed.

I am not saying that that's the case but it is something to consider. The fact that the seller hasn't disclosed this would put me off straight away.

On the other hand its a good bargaining tool, the car is nice and I love the spec on it but if you still decide to go ahead I would advise on asking a mechanic or the AA to come out and do a check on it before handing over 19k for it.

Good luck with the search, its a lovely car either way!

Where can I get a report on an Irish car that gives me it's insurance history regarding whether it's been stolen/recovered and whether it's been written off or damaged and repaired?

Does the Irish Insurance Industry even have a Cat A, Cat B, Cat C, Cat D?

If they have, do they all make this information available to HPI check companies?

Not on a car that was bought for €45k and the accident happened within 2 years.

Yeah its exactly what I wanted, but dealer has lied over a few things so I'm reluctantly walking away.
(Ad says the car is too big and will trade for A4, in person he said he wants to get a 2011 A6 Avant as the saloon is too small for him!)

Would always get an AA check on a car for that price.
