    redex-oil-treatment-hi.jpg

    Features -
    • Improves oil performance.
    • Cuts oil consumption.
    • Combats build-up of sludge and acids during normal running.
    • Extends life of oil.
    • Protects engine whilst reducing noise, exhaust smoke and oil leaks.
    • Suitable for Petrol and Diesel engines, with regular or synthetic oil.

Directions on the bottle - Simply add one full bottle to engine oil when the engine is WARM either during or between oil changes.

My question is do I have to do an oil change when using this? Some oil treatments say you should [change oil] after running idle for 10-15mins.

Reason why I am reluctant to do an oil change is I already did one last week, and if I did have to change oil, would I have to change oil filter [again] also?

    OR

    redex-engine-flush-hi.jpg

    Features -
    • Removes harmful sludge.
    • Cleans and frees valves and piston rings.
    • Combats engine wear. Neutralise corrosive acids.
    • Suitable for Petrol and Diesel engines, with regular or synthetic oils.

Should I have gone for Redex Engine Flush with a full oil change including filter?? To remove more sludge as the oil lamp is on suggesting oil pressure might be a problem as oil level is fine? I was told the oil level sensor was busted and to replace, but there is a slight clicking sound when idling when cold leads me to believe its a pressure problem after reading up on it.

I have the Oil treatment already so, if i can use that without an oil change i will.

What is the best remedy here?

    TIA

Oil treatment is to be added to your oil with the claim it does good things,
no oil or filter change need. Just add it to your oil and leave it in there until the next schedule oil change.

I personally don't believe it will make any difference but Redex do and make a lot of claims of what it will do. Nothing beats regular / frequent oil changes, it is the best way to keep the engine in tip top condition. Buy quality oil that is recommended for your car and change before service interval is best way to go forward rather than buying additives.

Engine flush is to clean out the oil and sludge just before doing a oil change. It has a lot of detergent in it to remove carbon sludge dirt from inside the engine. Follow the instruction on the bottle to the letter.
but generally you add this to the engine oil before changing the oil and filter. Add the engine flush to warm engine and run the engine for a short time for it to work its way around the engine then you do a oil change as normal.

there is two distinct opinions on oil engine flush

For - it does what it says and gets rid of the crap that is built up inside the engine

Against - the detergent can dislodge dirt that will be pumped around the engine and it may lodge somewhere blocking oil pathway causing more problems than it solved.

when every oil change comes up I do consider using the engine flush but so far I been able to resist the temptation :D

as your going through the Redex range there is also a fuel additive
I'll save you the expense it does nothing in any of the cars I've tried it in.

Why are you fretting about this if you've just changed the oil? Use the best oil you can afford of the correct spec for your engine and leave the snake-oil on the shelf.

Hey thanks for the replies, posted under partners account, asked her to thank you lot but she never did.

I think I might grab a bottle of redex engine flush for the next oil change, in 2k miles, will be 100k on clock then (12yo golf). And refill with some nice Castrol GTX oil, instead of tesco crap in it presently.

Has any one got a review of seafoam? might go for that over redex stuff!?

    Thanks for replies!

I have not used seafoam as I never seen it supplied locally but I know on Jeepforum in US they rave about it and most of the guys run a can of it through the engine all claim it works wonders

I believe the engine will smoke like crazy as it works its way through the engine cleaning as it goes.

Hopefully amazon will ship the seafoam via parcel motel. Will cost a fair bit but think the car needs some TLC!

I wouldn't use engine flush on an old car, especially on something like a 12 year old golf. You could end up opening a can of worms.

also some flushes aren't recommended to be used on engines with over 75k miles.

Keep thread updated as the seafoam is something I would be interested in using myself.

From what I understand you put some in fuel tank and the rest of can is feed in through vacum line to throttle body.

What goes in tank cleans fuel lines and injectors
what goes in air intake on throttle body cleans the crap out of cylinders and valves

what ive been told is there is lots of smoke but the results are really good.
Recommed to do oil, oil filter and spark plug change after.

Use good oil. After that don't be worried. And I wouldn't use any of them you donno what damage it might do
