    Hi,

I’m looking for a book I read quite a while ago, sometime in the mid to late 90s. It was a sci-fi book that had elements of comedy in it. It was set in the future, mostly on earth though there were colonies on different planets as well. It starts off where cheese sandwich or something like is dropped into a computer bank which causes changes and creates sentience, and it starts looking for it’s God.

It switches to a group of OAPs accompanied by a young female soldier who stumble upon a gigantic buried alien spaceship on earth. One of the OAPs had spent his life cleaning up a chemical mess in the Amazon and is so bitter about his career, that if he ever saw a furry creature again, he would kill it.

I can’t remember much more about only that the awakened spaceship has woken up cause a past enemy is approaching earth or her colonies and it has lain dormant for millions of years as a security measure in case something like what is approaching earth is it’s old enemy.

It mentions that earth is in possesion of fast than light travel, called Tachyspeed? Or something close to that

    Any help?

    Thanks
