Well folks I wonder can any of you help me? I have a 96 starlet ep91 and it's running cold. It doesn't reach normal operating temperature any more, it runs sound otherwise, but she's using a fair bit more juice. Any idea why it might be?

    Thermostat Faulty?

a thermostat change could help but in my experience, having had a couple of starlets with that engine is that they never get to quite half way on the gauge, more like a little bit over a third of the way up.

bought a 4e engined corolla the other week and drove it over 60 miles home at 100km/h and the gauge never quite made it to half way.

i stole this image online but i marked roughly where my needle would get to. i'l take a photo of my actual gauges later today.

If you leave it idling for a few minutes after a drive does the gauge rise? Does the fan kick in if left idling and if the fan works is the gauge showing a reading then?
