Anyone know can Ming Flannigan and Brian Hayes hold both their seats now as both have a Dail seat and a Euro seat.I was under the impression that people could only hold one seat.

no they'll have to resign Dail seat to go to Europe

and then they'll be byelections in their areas

Yeah there will have to be two bye-elections.

what is the point of running for Europe and abandoning your constituents in this manner, seems to happen often enough. IMO shows a total lack of respect for their Dail position that they've had the privilege of being voted into.

They could send their first replacements to Europe and keep their Dail seats.Unlikely to happen but isnt against the rules. Both will probably resign as MEPs when the next general election comes around and their replacement would take over then if their elected into the Dail again.

Just to clarify - they wouldn't have to resign as MEPs unless they were actually elected to the Dáil.
