Name That Paint

I was in a DIY Superstore yesterday looking at paint. I've always been amazed at the irrelevant names that some colours are called.

There was one called 'Space Capsule'. It was a rusty brown colour, how an earth can anybody make a connection between a NASA rocket and a shade of wall paint?

If you were an overpaid namer of paints what would your signature colour be called?

Mine would be 'Pearl Jizz', a rich creamy white.

Farrow and Ball have Dead Salmon, Elephant's Breath and Churlish Green in their range. (Yes I know I am missing the point of the thread, but I just had to mention them :-) )

Their drawing room blue is fabulous though, we've got it on our bedroom walls. Repainting soon but can't afford Farrow and Ball anymore, just can't justify spending 150 euro on paint for 1 room:(

Argh - you can't put 'drawing room blue' on bedroom walls - that'd be like putting 'bedroom blue' on the drawing room walls

what the hell is a drawing room anyway

Reminds me of this quiz on Buzzfeed: Can you name the Crayola colours?

One of the crayons is called "Purple Mountain's Majesty" o_O

I would name my paint Windows 95-grey. It would be that boring grey that all desktop housings used to come in and it would be perfect for soul-destroying workplaces.

Nah, it's gorgeous. Their paint is made in a traditional way and it has real depth to it. It's very relaxing in a bedroom. We have our bedroom painted drawing room blue(very dark blue) with cream curtains and accessories and it looks really great.

Institutional Green: that tired, off-green that you was de rigueur in any Irish institutional building in the early 80s: dole offices, Christian Brother schools, public toilets etc. Best experienced with incandescent strip lighting and the underlying odour of carbolic soap.

A purple paint i used (dulux 'foxglove') turned out a bit too strong and overpowering, and the name ''panic room purple'' came to mind. In England, my friend's kitchen is ainted in a dulux aint called 'sexy pink' whih is not available her, or not under that name.

Marian Keyes described a fictitious range of paint colours n a book, they included 'howl' and 'gangrene'.

Farrow and ball have some nice ones with odd names like 'arsenic' 'pelt' 'downpipe',
Fired Earth have some strangely named paints like 'dragon's blood' and 'opera cape' I love F&b and Fired Earth colours but they are expensive.

Meascán buí or yellow scour. See a share of it in my job. Has excellent adhesive properties needs no thinning but only used in well vetilated areas
