What options do I have?

Hello. I have really bad teeth as was never brought to the dentist as a child and since I was an adult have been frightened them talking down to me. I also have a really bad gag reflex and holding a toothbrush in my mouth for too long can make me sick. I really want to get my teeth sorted now, but like everyone money is tight.

My first thing I need sorted is my front teeth as I'd love to smile without fear of showing tooth. One front tooth has a serious cavity and so do the one on either side of the front teeth. I have a picture I can post but as a new user (anon) I can't post them. Would a white composite filling be an option? If so what would be the general price? I will also need at least two back molars pulled but as I'm in no pain ( touch wood) with them I'd rather get that done after.

    Hopefully someone can help me!

I also have a really bad gag reflex, but can brush my teeth - you may be doing it wrong. Short term, look up some videos on how to floss and brush your teeth, then do it, at least twice a day.

Secondly, you're a grown up, and the dentist isn't your mammy (unless she is, but pick a different dentist if she is). End of the day, you're paying for a service - they're not going to give out to you like a bold child, and if they do, just don't go back there. Would you be afraid to call the fridge repair man in case he gives out to you?

I lost an amalgam (metal) filling a while back from a back tooth, and the dentist suggested a white filling. I was wary, as I'd heard that white fillings don't last as long, but apparently that's old news, and the new ones are grand, so can't see there'd be any issue with getting white fillings. AFAIK prices range from about €85-€135 per filling. You'd also have the original consultation (€70?), a clean and polish (€50?), and possibly an x-ray if they just want to be thorough and spot everything at once.

Get out the golden pages (or, y'know, internet) immediately, find a local dentist, and ring them for an appointment in the morning. Explain to the receptionist that you're a new private patient, haven't been in years, afraid of being given out to, and you'd like them to be nice to you. This site has customer reviews: http://www.whatclinic.com/dentists/ireland/county-dublin/dublin and some guideline prices for stuff.

If the front tooth is really far gone, there may not be enough left of it to fill, in which case you're looking at crowns, etc, which will be expensive.
