Ford focus 1.6 Zetec advice

Hi guys, just looking at a 2007 ford focus 1.6 petrol Zetec. I'm currently driving a 2006 VW Passat 1.9TDI but due to my circumstances I'm not doing diesel millage anymore and I'm looking at trading it in for the focus. So my question is what is the focus 1.6 petrol like in general? My friend has a 1.4 petrol and it's a complete ball of ****, really slow and sluggish and its very heavy on petrol, what's the 1.6 like compared to the 1.4? Would want to be considerably better to warrant me buying it. Also where does the zetec come in level of spec?

    Thanks

1.6 litre is much more responsive than the 1.4 litre but coming from a turbo diesel it will still feel sedated as it doesn't give the punch when the turbo kicks in, on the plus side it will be quieter and smoother.

Zetec is middle of the range model - LX/Style -> Zetec -> Ghia/Titanium.

I recently (3 months) got a 07' 1.6 Ford Ghia. It has the TI-VCT engine with 110 or 115 PS.

Having done a few long trips and a lot of city/local driving I find it fine for power re over taking, cruising etc. It is certainly not a quick car however very comfortable, easy to drive and gives good mpg.

It's no rocket, but it's perfectly acceptable for normal motoring.
Unless you're going to be doing a lot of miles, the 1.6 petrol is the best all round engine to go for in the Mk2 focus by far.
We had a 1.6 Mk2 petrol focus for a good few years, it proved to be a great all round car, very reliable, and a very good engine.
It was also a great car in the snow and ice.
I'd have no hesitation recommending it to anyone.
The mk2 is too heavy for the paddy spec 1.4 petrol, it wasn't even available as an option in the UK.

What is the motivation for changing?

Stick with the 1.9 TDI great engine. Just drive the long way home.
