    Hi Rockin,

The Schott ceran bit is just the make of glass on the hob, the hob will be by another manufacturer, is there a boost button anywhere?

Does any of the hob light up, only asking because our induction hob doesn't glow at all, they don't need to.

just the middle - which is odd considering the outside ring doesn't glow red

And it glows without a pan on it?

Our induction hob only heats under the pot on the hob, that's how they are supposed to work.
If you put on a pot with a larger diameter the outer part should heat.
    Never glows though.
Mine is a De Dietrich that was bought in '98.
    Hope this helps.

If that's the case then surely it's not an induction hob but either a conventional or halogen one?

I'm not that sure on how one would differentiate

Induction works through the passage of energy through a magnetic field rather than conduction of heat from essentially a powerful lightbulb also induction only sends the energy when a suitable pan is placed on it

Yep sounds like it isn't induction, will it heat up with a non S/S pan? Something like a ceramic casserole dish or a pyrex pan?

Induction needs a decent quantity of iron in the mix for the magnets to work.

If it was an induction hob, and you turn it on without a suitable pan on it, nothing happens at all, it doesn't light up, glow or anything. You could even put your hand on it and wouldn't feel any heat.

For my Electrolux hob, to turn on the outer ring, I just press the ring symbol (in your case, the double circle, 3rd down to the right). That also means it's the lower left ring that's doubles as a small/large ring.

That rule should similarly apply to the oval ring at the top right.

Rockin the hob you have is a regular ceramic hob with touch control, if the plate is not heating on the outer circuit it is faulty on that circuit or the control board itself is not energising the plate, you will need an engineer to diagnose.
