How do I know if I popped a coil?

I'm using an MVP2 with an official wick, which is less than a week old.
    I'm using Wicked (Healthier Smoker) 18mg Menthol on a 2.1ohm @ 3.3 W / 6.0 V

I'm getting a nasty burnt taste on the flavour.
It is passable, but not very nice. As you can see, I'm on the lowest setting, on a new wick, so it doesn't make sense.

    Can anyone advise?

If you popped a coil the atomiser would stop working. Which atomiser do you use? Mpv is a battery. A week is a long time. It sounds like you may have a coil and wick that are clogged up this leading to dry hits, try washing under warm water. If you can see the coil, pulse the battery (dry burn) until the gunk is burnt away and the coil glows red, then wash again refill.

Or change the wick and coil more often. Surely replacements are quite cheap?

You seem to have your volts and watts confused the mvp starts at 6watts or 3.3volts depending which mode you decide to use , im assuming you just got them confused here.

Anyway 3.3volts or 6watts is very low for a 2omh coil and id suspect most would find that setting too low , and you could run a 2omh coil at the maximum 5volts/11watts and should not be getting burnt wick UNLESS

Unless A: the wick is not wicking (soaking the juice up) properly or
B: the coil is gunked up and needs to either be cleaned or changed

As said above a week is a long time to get out of one coil/wick without having to either clean ( if using a silica wick) or change if using a cotton wick.

you can clean a silica wick and coil by dry burning (youtube it) or you can take out the silica wick , dry burn the coil to clean the coil and then insert a nice fresh home made cotton wick (again youtube it)

Or you can just replace the whole coil/wick with a new one

When you pop a coil one of two things happen, it will either read NON when you click the two buttons on your MVP simultaneously or it will have some crazy reading like 7.9ohm, this is usually when a coil is on its last legs.

If it's reading the correct resistance then the coil is fine, that doesn't mean you didn't get a dud though, it unfortunately happens. Pop in another coil head and that should sort your problem out.

Which iclear are you using with it, 16, 30 or 30s?

I've noticed that with thicker juices the top coil version (30) has wicking problems which can cause the bad taste you describe.

The 30s is much better for wicking and flavour. As you're using what I assume is mostly a PG juice, I doubt this is the cause of the problem.

Sorry, I should have clarified. iClear 30, with official (cotton, AFAIK) wicks @ 2.1.

Yeah, I got confused. Sorry. I had it on 6w or 3.3V (depending on which I had selected) so that the juice wasn't burning, as I thought the burnt flavour may have been the juice.

I am using the iClear 30, as it came with my MVP, but I would consider moving to the iClear 30S once I get more funds. Replacement wicks are only €2.50 at present, which is good.

    Thanks for the heads up.

As for the juice, Wicked are (according to a review website), a 50/50 mix, only I thought that it was 60/40, to be honest. I can't find a correct answer. Surely, being an Irish company, someone would know better about this.

I've gone off and cleaned the wick. I dry burned it and the like, and it is wicking now, so I'll update shortly. I will up the power on the device, too.

http://e-cigaretteshop.eu/en/41-coils 1.90 and I have a discount code for them up on my site which I've linked below (check where to buy - discount codes).

The 50/50 base will cause wicking problems on the iclear 30 in my experience, just jimmy a cotton wick between the two coils and it will sort it out.

Anytime I load up my 30 nowadays I always do this by default now no matter what the juice. Yeah the 30s is a lot better but I'd go one better and get the glass tank for it (30b), some juices can be harsh on plastic tanks.

The only downside to the 30s is that dry burning and cleaning coils doesn't work as well as with 30 coil heads. I tried dry burning a few with limited success, at this stage I just bin them.

    Yeah as already said ,
the iclear30 you can basicaly forget about rebuilding them yourself even to just rewick them i had little success with ,and dry burning wasnt great either.

Which is why mine never again saw a drop of juice , plus they tend to flood if not kept upright, iclear30 is junk in my opinion.

I've had nothing but problems with the iclear 30 as well, horrible taste the first time using it, defiantly something left over from the production of the tank. It went away after a thorough wash with warm water. I get very little flavor off mine and usually get a slight burned hit if I take a couple of draws of it in a row. I've found putting a single flavor wick off another tank on top of the top coil has helped a bit but not much. Personally I find the draw a bit too tight for me, I prefer a airer draw. Also the constant leaking through the part which connects to the battery is annoying, it's not leaking like crazy but still it's annoying enough that I rarely use the tank.

So far in terms of tanks I've tried iclear 30, miniprotank 2 & 3, Evod and the Evod 2 (glass). The Evod 2 (glass) has been the best out of those tanks, it gives really strong flavor and I've had zero leaks or dry hits. The only problem I've found with them is if you're using an MVP you can't tighten them down fully or it restricts the airflow sightly, if you back them off a little they work perfectly. The miniprotank 3 is very nice as well but they didn't seem to work as well on the standard non-variable ego style batteries, which I use if I'm going out on the weekends.

This tank http://www.e-smokeireland.eu/product-p/protank2.htm used with this http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/clearomizers/427-kanger-airflow-control-valve.html and a pack of 5 coils , learn how to rewick/recoil

and you can vape away in leak free bliss and id garryowen that 1clear30 into the nearest field

I've been nothing but disappointed for some reason or another with all the top coil clearos I have tried. The 30 is the best of of a bad bunch for me. It seems everyone has a different type of problem with them alright, heh. I got lucky and actually really liked it when I first got it because it worked perfectly. I still use it for strong tasting juices for its muted vape. That said, I'm back on the carto tank as my staple and my clearos are getting less and less usage and my kayfun FINALLY arrived (yay!).

This (you might find it cheaper elsewhere) could also be an option for you Static, it looks a lot tidier on the MVP and replacement cartos are cheaper.

Carto tanks take a bit of getting used to but boge cartos rarely let you down.
