I have 08 Renault Trafic and every time I put the arm rest down and then put my elbow on it it falls down. Is there a way to fix it?

There is a big plastic knob on the side of it that ya can turn but it doesn't seem to tighten it at all

Probably a busted washer by the looks of it. Best to take it apart if you are handy and have a look. Otherwise, order one.

will the knob come off if so take it off and turn the bar that goes into it with a visegrip to get the height your happy with.

I never tried taking the knob off. When I put.my elbow on it and it falls down it makes like a clicking noise like a rachtet or something

    Where would the washer be?

I think you actually have to remove the back of the seat to be able to take the armrest out

This is aftermarket but should give you an idea what you're looking at.

Looks like there's a little cap in the centre of the knob on the side , there should be a little groove for a small flathead screwdriver to prise it off.

Then have a look and see what holds it all together and what the mechanism is, get creative with some screws if you don't mind aesthetics.

Failing that get a seat from a breakers/scrapyard and swap it over.

Changed one last month. Remove the centre cap, and then just pull off the knob(this is for the lumbar support).

Put the armrest in the upright position and you should see two small tabs at the 3 o clock and 9 o clock position. Prise these tabs outwards and the armrest should just pull out. Mine was very tight so i just sprayed some WD40 in around the tabs and it came off easily enough then.

I was lucky enough that i had sourced a second hand part so i could just swop them around. There's a ratchet mechanism inside the armrest which causes the problem. This can be taken apart(3 screws), but the fabric is so tightly fitted to the armrest that it would probably be damaged trying to remove it.

Cheers for that!! I thinks it's the rachet mechanism that's not working on mine and causing it not to stay up. Did you replace the rachet mechanism on yours?

That stop it from constantly falling down then?

Yep. I had a look around earlier for the old armrest to take it apart and have a look inside but unfortunately i couldn't find it, so i'm not sure exactly what part of the ratchet mechanism failed.
