    Hi guys

I am wondering what way the Vat works on Amazon as i have a Vat cert and Vat number to order a new laptop that i have been wonting and it works out crazy cheap to buying it from Ireland.

After i upload my Vat cert

Does my Vat discount get taking away right away ?. As with other crowds from the Uk that has been the way.

Or do i have to wait a few days to get a refund ?

    Thanks

It only works when buying direct from amazon. It will not be taken into account if buying from a 3rd party seller.

Just reg everything there for it

Was on to amazon support and they said as long as its fulfilled by amazon the VAT is taking off it. The Macbook i wont is fulfilled by amazon so its all grand. Huge savings on it over buying from apple ireland

So will be ordering my new laptop before the end of the week :D

Any company doing over a certain volume of trade to Ireland has to charge VAT at the Irish rate and so on for other countries in Europe. Most major retailers that officially ship to Ireland do, and the reverse applies for larger Irish online retailers like MemoryC having a list of other EU countries VAT numbers on their site.

Most quote the price inclusive of the target country VAT from the start though, unlike Amazon.

As other posters have said, Amazon are registered for Irish VAT and have an Irish VAT number therefore if you give them an Irish VAT number, they will charge Irish VAT and you will have to reclaim the VAT from the Revenue in your next return

The basis of the VAT system is that the end user of the product is really the only person who actually "suffers" the VAT as all previous entities in the transaction will be able to reclaim the VAT paid which leaves them in a VAT neutral position ie the only VAT that the Revenue actually get to keep is the VAT paid by the final customer in the transaction

VAT should only be reclaimed by businesses on the purchase of goods for resale or for items\services purchased for use in the business, if the OP is buying the product for their own non-business use, the product is liable to VAT which should not be reclaimed from the Revenue

yes, the limit is €35,000 at the moment. Lots of companies are above this.

Also some items in other countries could be zero vat so you might see very large increases, not just 20% going to 23%. Glucose tablets was one before, and other sports supplements which are all a bit of a grey area.

Some set up another site and often slap on a hell of a lot more than just the VAT difference.

The Irish government get this VAT by the way, which is good to know and might sway peoples choice.
