Internal door locked, can't unlock

We recently had an extension built onto the house. We locked one of the doors earlier, but it won't open now. Key will turn (with force) but lock won't unlock.

It's a standard internal door handle that many people have in Irish houses. Similar enough to this.

Any suggestions to open it so I can avoid calling out a locksmith. Don't mind if I break the lock in the process, it's not necessary. It's the kids playroom, so would like to get it open again!

I had something similar where the kids locked a basta lock with the wrong key it was only when I saw the correct key on top of the door I copped it. The wrong key could only lock the door not unlock it so if you have some spare key try them

Spray a bit of WD40 into the lock and at the door-edge part, too. It's great for loosening up locks and hinges, etc.

    Thanks for responses.

As an update to this, and in case anyone else finds themselves in the same predicament, I was advised to take the doorstop off the doorframe. It's the raised lip around the doorframe that the door closes against. Comes off quite easily if you stick a screwdriver into it and wedge if off. This gives you access to the lock bolt that is holding the door closed and you can force the lock open from there.

My son locked an internal door with the wrong key also.

It was a union lock and I went to Churchtown Stores who had a set of all the Union keys (deposit was 20e) so I could unlock it then.

Basta keys are numbered also, I think.
