My cars tax has been out of date for a few months. When i tried to declare it off the road i was told id need to pay the tax up to that point, which i cant afford. So ive decided to sell the car, but im wondering if i still need to pay the back tax before selling it. Or would the new owner simply pay for tax from the moment the car is bought?

Nope. Arrears disappear with change of owner, so the new owner just pays from the month in which they bought the car, and you owe nothing.
